One of the great things about my job is that I get to witness some of the most breathtaking scenes underwater. One of them being the Manta Night Dive. On this particular night, we saw 23 mantas. Some of them have 12 to 18ft wing spans and they each have their own unique markings on their bellies. A fingerfrint of sorts. We decended to about a 40ft bottom where we knelt with flashlights in hand, and watched as plankton gathered in swarms around our lights. Before long mantas came soaring in, swooping down open mouthed, gathering up the plankton - at times just inches above our heads. After spending an hour watching in awe and dodging mantas, we ascended back to the boat and continued to watch as they skimmed the surface all around us. What an amazing experience....
